I think that this day was the start of a new railfanning "period" for me, as Dad and I would be seeing a lot more UP Dash-8/9's and standard cabs, sticking around Dayton instead of driving all the way to Beaumont, and making more railfanning trips in general. The scenery was also more green in general since it was around Spring. Anyway, we caught some cool finds on this day, including a BNSF local run, some trains starting up and leaving, a CN unit, and my personal favorite: a rare NS stack train!
0:00 - A BNSF local train with two older EMDs and just a single hopper heads past a waiting UP freight and onto the Baytown line.
BNSF 3199 - EMD GP50
BNSF 2679 - EMD GP39-3
1:30 - The waiting UP freight starts up and leaves the Dayton yard. This train had my very first moving UP standard cab unit in a very long time; the last one was in April of 2011! I would be seeing this unit again several times during my visits to Dayton.
UP 9478 - GE C41-8W
UP 9332 - GE C40-8
4:54 - A UP freight with a rare CN unit and an AWESOME horn heads off the Baytown line and through the Dayton yard after the previous train.
UP 4594 - EMD SD70M
UP 4183 - EMD SD70M
CN 5713 - EMD SD75I
7:24 - Another UP freight heads off the Baytown line and through the yard. Unfortunately, a nearby car driver thought it would be funny to honk at us while driving by! Some people are so rude!
UP 9472 - GE C41-8W
UP 9718 - GE C44-9W
11:01 - While waiting for yet another UP freight, a couple of trucks with strange loads drove by. One of the had a bulldozer with HUGE tracks, and the other had a very large heat exchanger.
11:41 - The train now starts up and leaves. Tired of filming the same kind of videos in one day, I tried to do something different by zoomin in close on the lead unit.
UP 7324 - GE AC4460CW
UP 6947 - GE AC4460CW
14:14 - While eating at a restaurant near the tracks, a UP autorack with a some SD70M heads by.
UP 4420 - EMD SD70M
16:41 - Catch of the day! A rare NS stack train with a nice variety of GE power heads through the center of town. He eventually stopped at the end of the Dayton yard.
NS 7641 - GE ES44DC
NS 9921 - GE C44-9W
NS 8413 - GE C40-8W
20:08 - Shortly after the NS train, a UP freight slowly crawls through and onto the siding. He had stopped right next to the NS train at the end of the yard.
UP 5901 - GE AC44CWCTE
UP 6717 - GE AC44CW
22:25 - A couple of pictures near the end of the day: the two stopped trains side-by-side and an Air China airplane seen while heading home. After a little bit of waiting, the NS train started up, but the third unit, NS 8413, experienced engine problems and forced the train to stop. Eventually, the train left with the unit off.
